Professor Lazar VELICKI, MD, PhD
An adult cardiac surgeon with interest in the field of mechanical circulatory support (heart failure surgery), minimally invasive cardiac surgery, aortic surgery, coronary surgery. Head of the R&D department.
Studies and specializations
He graduated from the Medical Faculty of the University of Novi Sad in 2005 as the best student of the generation (Summa Cum Laude). The following year, he was employed at the Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases of Vojvodina in Sremska Kamenica. He received his Ph.D. in 2011 on a topic that explores risk assessment and risk stratification in cardiac surgery. During 2013, he became a specialist in general surgery, while in 2017 he became a subspecialist in cardiac surgery. He has participated in more than 50 conferences and professional gatherings in the country and abroad. He is the author of more than 80 papers published in renowned domestic and international journals.
Training and Interest
He actively participates in numerous national and international scientific projects related to the field of cardiovascular medicine. He has won several awards and scholarships including the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship which has enabled him to specialize in the field of mechanical circulatory support at the famous Texas Heart Institute (Houston, USA) under the mentorship of Dr. Bud Frazier. Areas of scientific interest include risk assessment in cardiac surgery, as well as computer modeling in the field of cardiovascular medicine (follow the link). Other
Member of the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons (EACTS). In addition to being employed at the Clinic for Cardiovascular Surgery at the Institute of cardiovascular diseases Vojvodina, Dr. Velicki is also an associate professor at the Department of Surgery of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Novi Sad.
